Hope this will help. We had a meeting of most of the main organizers
of this past years USGWA event. I take all responsibility for whatever
miscues there were, and there were many. First, scheduling.
-All high school division matches will be in the gym on five mats, and
bouts will be numbered, and the numbers will be posted at each mat so
it will not matter if we have an announcer or not. (We will have an
announcer in each gym).
-All elementary matches will be on three mats in the fieldhouse. Mats
will be set up to utilize the small section of bleachers, with portable
chairs set up to accomodate others who want to watch matches. (This
year the mats were not set up to take advantage of the small bleachers
that we did have available in the fieldhouse). There will be a maximum
of 30 groups in elementary. (There has never been more than 26 groups
of 6, but, if the numbers merited, we would possible put 7 or even 8 in
a group and still wrestle round robin -- maximum mat time is key for
there young wrestlers. This will allow the purchase of medals with the
year on them and not wasting any medals.
-All middle school matches will be on three mats in the fieldhouse on
the opposite end of where the elementary division in being contested.
Possible exception could be the Middle School semi-finals and finals
may be in the main gym to give them greater visibility. Matches will be
numbered for both middle school and elementary school as well.
-we will ADD a trainer, so there is a trainer in each gym/fieldhouse and one in the training room at all times.
-The University of the Cumberlands will be providing 25 of their
wrestlers for a "Courtesy Patrol", one Cumberland person at each mat,
and someone to patrol areas of the school where no one should be
allowed. Damage to a building, parking in restricted areas continue to
be a problem. We will have someone in the parking lot directing people
to the lot behind the school (which no one even knew about) and
handling those various problems.)
-Also, no coaches passes will be sold. TWO PERSONS PLUS ONE VIDEOGRAPER OR PHOTOGRAPHER in a corner, maximum, that's it.
Also, lower rate of admission for students (age 6 thru 17) $20 for two
days, senior citizens (65 and over) $15 for two days. No ONE day passes
sold on the first day. Age 18 to 64 pass is $35 for two days and ANYONE
CAN COACH.
-We will have a professional photographer in the building.
-We wil hire two uniformed security guards to handle any problems that
may be above and beyond what our USGWA staff should be expected to
handle.
-Each tournament (high school, middle school, and elementrary will have
a head table near their respective mats in their respective
gyms/fieldhouse.
-I will start shortly to contact the original 14 champions from 1998 to
return, and hopefully they can assist in passing out medals.
-Autograph session like we had in 2006.
-And more activities for the kids (non-wrestling related).
-MORE THINGS MAY BE ADDED TO COMMEMORATE OUR 10TH ANNIVERSARY
-Weigh-in will be shortened by one hour, it will be 4pm to 9pm - which
allows us to start seeding earlier. Concerning seeding, I really don't
think anyone is given preferential treatment -- we do, however, try to
keep wrestlers away from each other who are from the same state, so
that if they are good enough they will not meet until later rounds.
California has so many (God bless them) that it is sometimes hard to
do, and those from other states think CA is getting favoritism (not
true).
-Any more suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
-With all the criticism this year (and deservedly so), I never heard
one person say that the quality of the wrestling was not the best
ever!! And it will continue to get better, and colleges will start to
add more programs and give these girls choices and opportunities and
the recognition they deserve.
