Jimi Dawn Hornbuckle competes in the USA Wrestling Team Trials

Jimi Dawn Hornbuckle, Cherokee/Choctaw, recently competed at the USA Wrestling Team Trials in Battle Creek, MI. “I struggled through the first round but then came back to finish third in the mini-tournament,” stated Hornbuckle, who was competing in the 62k (136.5lb) weight class. Although the results seemed to disappoint her, it is only because she is accustomed to being at the top

Hornbuckle finished the 2000 season ranked #4. She has been a six-time #2 rank in the US for the 62k weight class, and a five-time runner-up at the World Trials. In 1998, Jimi Dawn won two major competitions, becoming both a University and USA National Champion. Her overall record stands at 93-34, with an 82-23 domestic record.

Jimi Dawn has a lot to brag about, including her recent appointment as a graduate assistant wrestling coach at Missouri Valley College. Her new position should enhance her training for the next season. She will have more access to mat time as well as wrestling one-on-one with girls in her own weight class. She has very high expectations and is excited for this new opportunity. She will begin training again in October.
