At the Monticello Empire League novice tournament on November 22, the following highly rated wrestlers placed in the tournament while wrestling against boys: Lenci Lendacker, Vallejo High School, 3rd place, 103 lbs; Sheila Lerit, Vallejo High School, 3rd place, 119 lbs; Emilie Murphree, 1st place, 135 lbs., with 2 pins and one major decision. Murphree has thus started her season off in blazing fashion, with a 5-1 record competing against boys in the 135 lb. class, an amazing accomplishment.

Napa Valley, California could be ground zero for girls wrestling this season. Vintage High School could have four top ten finishers at the national tournament this year: Maika Watanabe, Jessica Hsieh, Danni Presley and Emilie Murphree. In addition, Vallejo High School has two clear top ten contenders (Lenci Lendacker and Sheila Lerit) and one possible top ten contender (Elizabeth Domagas).

At the Armijo JV tournament on November 18, highly rated 101 lb. wrestler Maika Watanabe went 1-0 with a pin over her opponent while leading 10-0. Highly rated 135 lb. wrestler Emilie Murphree went 2-1 with two pins. Newcomer Jessica Hsieh went 2-0 with one pin. All three wrestlers are on the Vintage High School wrestling team; all their matches were against boys. Watanabe and Hsieh are nationally ranked judo players as well.
