The Guelph men finished first overall as a team at the national championships with Chris Prickett (66 kg), Zoltan Hunyady (74 kg) and Marcel Scott (96 kg) winning individual silver medals. Chris Cox placed third and Aro Panzo was sixth. The women's team finished fourth, led by Ohenewa Akuffo winning the 72 kg class. Lindsay Rushton (48 kg) placed third, Belinda Chou (51 kg) and Meaghan Wilton (67 kg) fourth, and Malissa Bryan (63 kg) sixth.
"We were staggered by winning the team gold," coach Cox says. "Our club hadn't won senior nationals in over 20 years. We didn't even talk about it going in because we just didn't think it was doable. I mean we're competing against teams that have budgets that are 20 times larger than ours, recruiting programs that give full-ride scholarships. We're just in a different league when it comes to that. But wrestling-wise we're as talented as anybody."
