World bronze medalist Sally Roberts to provide clinic and autographs at Body Bar Women’s Nationals on April 9

3/30/2005
Gary Abbott/USA Wrestling

2003 World bronze medalist Sally Roberts (Colorado Springs, Colo./Gator WC) will provide a special technique clinic, Body Bar demonstration and autograph session at the Body Bar Women’s National Championships in El Cajon, Calif., Saturday, April 9.

Roberts, who is currently ranked No. 1 on the Women’s National Team at 59 kg/130 lbs., will be a special guest at the championships as part of Body Bar’s sponsorship of this major national women’s competition.

The competition will be held at Grossmont High School in the city of El Cajon, which is in the San Diego community on April 9 and 10.

The technique clinic and Body Bar demonstration will be held at the conclusion of the second session of wrestling on Saturday, April 9, at approximately 3:30 p.m. Roberts, along with one of her U.S. Olympic Training Center resident athlete teammates, will teach young women athletes during the clinic. At the conclusion of her presentation, Roberts will sign autographs for those in attendance.

The Body Bar Women’s Nationals provides USA Wrestling national championships for female wrestlers at three different age levels, the University division, the FILA Junior division and the FILA Cadet division. In addition, national championships in freestyle wrestling will be held in two other age group divisions: Grades 3-6 and Grades 7-8.

For information on the Body Bar Women’s Nationals, contact event director Richard Bailey at 619-303-6886 or the California USA Wrestling office at 559-275-9478.

Roberts won a bronze medal at the 2003 World Championships in New York City, helping lead Team USA to a second-place finish. She was a 2003 World Cup champion, as well as a 2003 U.S. Nationals champion and 2003 University Nationals champion. She placed fifth in the 2004 U.S. Olympic Team Trials competing up a weight class. In both 2003 and 2004, Roberts won Special Wrestle-offs to claim the No. 1 spot on Women’s Team USA.

Roberts has won a number of international medals, including gold medals at the Yarygin Memorial in Russia and the Dave Schultz Memorial in the United States. She is originally from Federal Way, Wash., and competed at Pacific Univ. and UM-Morris before joining the USOTC resident program in Colorado Springs.

USA Wrestling announced earlier this week that Body Bar Systems of Boulder, Colo. has agreed to continue to be designated as USA Wrestling's Women's National Team Sponsor through 2006. Body Bar Systems served as Women’s National Team Sponsor leading up to the 2004 Olympic Games.

Body Bar Systems produces "The Body Bar" and its accompanying "Master Your Body" video and DVD series. It has proven to be an equalizer in fitness facilities with new students, advanced exercisers and professionals finding new ways to challenge themselves. The Body Bar is also proving to be a powerful home-workout tool, with no loose parts and easy storage.
