Tricia Saunders U.S.A

Tricia Saunders progressed the final after last year and fought with Xiue Xhong, CHN, who is a five time world champion.

Her husband, Towensend Saunders, is a silver medalist at Atlanta Olympic. He was an ultimate fighting fighter too, but is now retired. Now he is the best coach for Patricia

Tricia Saunders was an only world champion in U.S.A. (Sandra Bacher won this year). She got a fourth world champion this year. And she is an only world champion who is a mother.

She finished 6th at 50 kg in the 1990 world champiosnhips and 5th at 47 kg in 1991. After going to Chinese Taipei and Japan to train and being married with Townsend Saunders, who was a top American wresrtler, she became stronger and reached the 50 kg world champion in 1992. She got a silver medal in 1993.

She had a baby in 1995. But she came back to the mat next year and paticipated the Asian championships as an open competer and won. Still more she won in the world championships. After she had second baby, she continued to wrestle and got a 46 kg world champion in 1998. 33 years old world champion is the oldest record in female wrestling history. Does she continue the power of mother?

Sandra Bacher is an American of Japanese descent and a cousin of a famous Japanese singer, Rinda Yamamoto. She was a judoka and the member of 1992 U.S.A. Olypmpic judo team. She finished fifth in 1994 world judo championships. After that she started wrestling.

She finished 9th in 1995 World Championships. And 4th in 1996, 3th in 1997, 2nd in 1998. She reached a world champion this year.

Since Christine Nordhagen, a 68 kg world champion in 1998 and competed at 75 kg this yaer, will go down to 68 kg next year, it will be more difficult for Sandra Bacher to win in 1999. Will she win next year too?

Anna Gomis forestalled and pinned Mariko Shimizu

Anna Gomis-France

Anna Gomis won four times this year. She beat Gudrun Hoie, who is a 1998 world champion, at the semifinal. Gomis was beaten by Hoie at the final last year. And she defeat Mariko Shimizu by fall at the final.

Anna was a female cadet 40 kg champion in 1988. She appeared again in the 1993 European championships and finished 3rd at 50 kg. But she got a gold medal in the world champion. After finishing 2nd at 50 kg in 1994 and 3rd at 57 kg in 1995, she reached European and world 53 kg champion in 1996. She won both championships in 1997.

She won the 1998 Eropean champioships, but was beaten by Gudrun Hoie, who came back, and finished with a silver medal in the 1998 world championships.
